By far my favourite book of all time! A fantastic story set in Oxford in the 1600's when new discoveries were being made in science and medicine. An intellectual thriller during a time of great upheaval - intellectual, religious and political!
The story begins with the murder of Dr Robert Grove, a fellow of New College, Oxford, and the events surrounding it are narrated from four different points of view; Marco de Cola, a Venetian Catholic doctor newly arrived in Britain; Jack Prescott, son of a Royalist traitor and desperate to clear his beloved fathers name; John Wallis, a of the mathematical genius and contemperary of Newton; and Anthony Wood, an antiquary.
