€11.25 Post Office[9780753518168] by Charles BukowskiPaperbackPublished: 02/04/09 Henry Chinaski is a lowlife loser with a hand-to-mouth existence. His menial post office day job supports a life of beer, one-night stands and racetracks. Lurid, uncompromising and hilarious, "Post Office" is a landmark in American literature. The new edition is augmented with an anecdotal introduction by the modern Welsh cult-literary author, Niall Griffiths - a writer who was working in a British post office when he first read Bukowski's "Post Office". Bukowski was famously described by Time magazine as a laureate of American lowlife, and this book shows us why. Post Office is the first of Bukowski's novels to feature his alter ego Hank Chinaski, an aggressive alcoholic with no desire to achieve anything other than staying alive and staying drunk. It is difficult to define what it is about Bukowski's work that I find enjoyable. I guess I find it the perfect antidote to the fake smiles and pretentiousness so prevalent in today's world of television and Hollywood.
