Askeaton-Ballysteen GAA Story 1884-2020

by Paul Anglim

Only five clubs in the West Limerick GAA division have compiled a club history. Askeaton-Ballysteen GAA story by Paul Anglim is number six. The purpose of the book was to record over 130 years of Gaelic Games activity in the parish of Askeaton-Ballysteen with as much accuracy as possible. It is by no means a history of every ball that was ever kicked or pucked in the parish, but it gives a history of the main achievements and advances of the GAA throughout the decades. Players, mentors and administrators will be mentioned most in the book, as these were the names that appeared most in newspaper reports. I have tried to mention as much as possible the other great volunteers who contributed to GAA in the parish. Most of the information for this book was gleaned from old newspaper reports, AGM reports, and interviews with old GAA members. I hope that, through the photographs and stories from the past, people whose deeds have been forgotten are brought back to life.
This book covers all the bodies under the umbrella of the GAA. Hurling, Gaelic football, camogie, Ladies Gaelic football, handball, Inter-firm, schools and Scór have all been present in the parish at some stage throughout the history of the GAA.
