Known for his catchphrases in commentary and his lively impressions of other players, Virgo was inducted into the World Snooker Tour Hall of Fame in 2023. He passed away in February 2026 at his home in Spain, aged 79. A special invitational tournament, the 2026 John Virgo Trophy, was held in April 2026 as a tribute to his life and work as one of the world's greatest snooker players.
