A very contemporary novel. Set in Dublin in the present day, this tells the story of a teenager from a very traditional background, Aisling, who has begun to challenge her mother's right-wing ideals. As the conflict between them escalates, a horrific event turns their lives upside down and they both begin to question everything they used to believe in. Some controversial issues are at the forefront of this story, including abortion. The author's talent for plotting makes this book as much a journey of suspense towards a guessed at but shocking denouement, as an exploration of character or didactic attack on those who feel they have the right to control women's bodies.
