"Chub": The Life and Times of a Remarkable Kerryman

by Patrick 'Chub' O'Connor

In this engaging memoir, Patrick 'Chub' O'Connor recounts the life and times of his father, Timothy 'Chub' O'Connor.

Orphaned at a young age, Chub-as he was always known- grew up near Killorglin and fought against the Black and Tans during Ireland's War of Independence before studying at the London School of Economics.

Returning to his native Killorglin, he put his entrepreneurial skills to work by establishing many succesful businesses which created significant employment in mid-Kerry during difficult economic times.

Timothy 'Chub' O'Connor was a long-serving county councillor and was a Fianna Fáil TD for Kerry South from 1961 to 1981, serving under Taoisigh including Seán Lemass, Jack Lynch and Charles Haughey.

He owned some of the most succesful greyhounds in Irish history including three-time Irish Greyhound Derby winner, Spanish Battleship.

'Chub' is an important family and social history which offers fascinating insights into the life and times of a remarkable Kerryman.
