The albums Penthouse & Pavement and The Luxury Gap are classics of early 1980s new wave and synth pop. The band was a splinter group from Martyn Ware's previous band The Human League (whose manager secretly colluded with Virgin to split the band in two). ELECTRONICALLY YOURS VOL 1 takes us from Ware's austere upbringing in various council houses in Sheffield and his close teenage friendship with Phil Oakey to the white-hot experimentation and success in the 'Synth Britannia' era, and beyond to Ware's production career up to 1990 working with some of the world's greatest singers, such as Tina Turner. Ware produced Turner's comeback single 'Let's Stay Together', which became the biggest-selling 12 inch record in US history, and other landmark releases of the era such as Terence Trent D'Arby's The Hardline According To... which went on to sell over 10 million albums worldwide, and became Ware's first number one in America, and Erasure's I Say, I Say, I Say, which became Erasure's most successful album ever in the US, and featured the single 'Always' which reached number one in the UK.
