This centenary commemoration of the story of Kimmage Manor sets out to chronicle events as gleaned form Spiritan (Holy Ghost) Provincial Archives, form the memories and memoirs of Spiritans alive and dead, and from various writings over the years. Patrick J. Ryan C.S.Sp. aims to tell, as faithfully as possible, how Holy Ghost Missionary college, Kimmage Manor came to be, and how it progressed through the course for he twentieth century to become one of the leading missionary colleges in Ireland. It outlines the slow beginnings, the rapid rise over forty or fifty years and then the more rapid decline to the point where at the time of writing there is only one Irish Spiritan student in formation. The main focus of the book is on what happened and, to a lesser extent, why. It makes no pretence at being a critical history of Kimmage Manor; it is more a tour guide through one hundred years o how young men were prepared for mission. Neither is it in any way a history of the overseas missions of the Irish Spiritan Province. At a later time it will be possible for a person more removed from the events to do an analysis and a more critical history of the period.
