So Long To Coolanoran

by Patrick J. O'Connor

'It took a good while for the move to strike as mental image of returning. I had been to Coolanoran thirty-one years before, lost to the world on a bird nesting odyssey, when my father appeared on his bike, and barred his two children back to the Park. The encounter was uncanny for marking the spot on the road to the place I now call home...That has made all the difference."

Author of eighteen books, including six volumes of poetry, Patrick J. O'Connor is a human geographer at the University of Limerick. Dr O'Connor is twice winner of the Irish Historical Research Prize, in 1987 for Exploring Limerick's Past, and in 1989 for People Make Places. He is also twice winner of the Government of Canada Faculty Enrichment Award. Following The New Houses (2009), So Long to Coolanoran is his second volume of memoirs
